Physical Therapy

At ProMet we will combine our intensive knowledge of the human body and your goals to ensure that you are on the most optimal path to full recovery!

We Treat The Individual

ProMet understands that all individuals are different and therefore no two injuries alike. We don’t just treat pain or injured joints. WE TREAT PEOPLE.
With our individualized approach to each patient, our Doctors of Physical Therapy help develop a treatment plan designed specifically to meet your needs.

At ProMet, we have a three-part system to our strength-and-conditioning program:

  • Decrease the Risk of Injury.
  • Maximize Sport Performance.
  • Maximize Efficiency in Movement.

Given our commitment to these goals, our team will educate and empower patients to manage their own keys to success.

Balance and Gait Training

Having optimal balance and stability is an essential component of movement that must be maintained as we age. Falls are one of the main causes of injury in older adults. Those who already have existing physical comorbidities, past injuries, or a history of falls are at an even higher risk for serious complications, and even fatality after a fall.

Our team at ProMet can help you master skills in order to decrease your risk of injury, while increasing your confidence in pursuing the activities you love!

What does balance and gait training entail?

  • Gait Pattern Evaluation
  • Determine focus areas that are needed for improvements in strength, mobility, flexibility, and posture.
  • A personalized treatment program to optimize your movement.

With our dedicated team behind you, you will become an active participant in your care and will regain your confidence in performing difficult tasks.

Cupping

Therapeutic cupping is a form of alternative medicine dating back to ancient Egyptian, Asian, and European cultures. Treatment consists of cups placed on the skin wherein negative air pressure creates a suction force.

Cupping is used for a variety of purposes:

  • Pain relief
  • Inflammation reduction
  • Relaxation
  • Increased blood flow

The suction created by cupping therapy can also be used to:

  • Drain excess body toxins
  • Stimulate the peripheral nervous system
  • Direct blood flow to tight, stagnant muscles and skin

By lifting the skin from the muscle, the cupping action facilitates improved tissue extensibility, decreases pain perception, and allows more efficient movement patterns.

IASTM Technique

IASTM Technique is a type of instrument-assisted, soft tissue mobilization that is designed to aid in the healing response from the body to the affected area. This is accomplished through breakdown of the capillary beds inducing nutrition to the tissues of the injured area.

What can you notice?

  • Improved range of motion
  • Soft tissue mobility
  • Decreased pain
  • Restoration of functional movement patterns

We have used IASTM on strains and sprains, arthritic joints, chronically painful tissues, post operative areas, and myofascial dysfunction- just to name a few. Side effects of the treatment may include mild bruising along the lines of treatment, and delayed onset muscle soreness, although completely normal! Often times, the patients describe a general warming feeling, or even some tingling in the treated areas for up to 24 hours.

At ProMet, we frequently use Hawk Grips™ instruments to:

  • Improve the mobility of a joint or muscle
  • Promote healing of a strain or sprain
  • Address scar tissue formation post-operatively
  • Improve overall function in fluidity of movement

We find that using Hawk Grip™ tools helps decrease patient recovery time by expediting the healing process and improving symptoms, whether the injury is acute, chronic, or post-operative.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Tape® (other brand names we also use include Rock Tape®, KT Tape® and Strength Tape®) are elastic tapes that supplement the body’s natural healing process. Traditional, white athletic tape limits movement, but Kinesio tape allows for full movement of the taped area and can help distribute forces to other nearby areas and the underlying tissues.

Depending on which taping technique is used, Kinesio tape® can perform many different functions:

  • It can improve lymphatic drainage
  • It can facilitate muscle contraction, thereby improving posture and movement
  • It even provides proprioceptive stability when applied to muscles surrounding  the target joint

Kinesio taping is one of the many tools in our toolbox at ProMet. Our PTs educate patients about the reasons for using Kinesio taping as well as how to combine it with other techniques for more long-lasting results.

Postural Restoration ®

Posture is a reflection of the “position” of many bodily systems that are regulated, determined, and created through limited functional patterns. These patterns reflect our ability and inability to breathe, rotate, and rest symmetrically.

‘“Limited functional pattern” refers to movement that is restricted in directions, planes, or normal boundaries of functional range, as a result of improper joint, muscle, and mediastinum rest position. Function is therefore limited because soft tissue and osseous restrictions prevent one from using muscles and joints in their normal range. Adaptation and compensation for these limitations require neuromotor encoding and hyperactivity of muscle that is placed in improper positions.

This compensatory activity and hyperactivity usually becomes dyssynchronous in the accessory muscles of respiration and at the appendicular flexors and axial extensors, thus limiting functional rotation at the trunk and through the lumbo-pelvic-femoral and cranial-mandibular-cervical complex.”
